I don't want my kid to be fat!

So my little boy turned 5 and I have been thinking hard about what I feed him and how I instill exercise in his life.  He is my chance to do it right.  I really believe once you are overweight you will always struggle with your weight.  I think your body stretches out and creates fat pockets which later just allow the fat to sit there.  So I have been bringing Johnny on my walks every night and guess what..he LOVES it and in fact he pushes me to go EVERY night.  I have been trying to get Johnny to eat more of what I eat and trying(really trying but fail sometimes) to spend more time doing stuff just him and I.  I find its hard because I get tired and just want to veg in front of the tv but I don't want to raise a kid who watches tv all the time or who goes into his room and gets on the computer for 4-5 hours.   I want to do things with him as he gets older and I feel if I don't set those habits now he won't want to spend time doing stuff with me.  Now I know he is going to eventually want to hang with his friends I just want to be selfish and have him as my little boy as long as I can.  So walks it is and he has been practicing his bike and scooter...I am still too scare to take him out on the road yet so we keep it to the backyard track but I think soon we will be able to take our bikes out on a ride.  I guess it all boils down to living my life the way I preach it and today is a good day...I feel committed!

Kids really are the biggest motivator, aren't they? My oldest loves doing workout videos with me, using the treadmill, and lifting kettlebells (I'm pretty sure she was switched at birth) and my youngest loves cartwheels and handstands and bike riding. I need to foster that activity in them. I definitely don't want them to struggle the way their father and I do. :)

Good for you for trying to set him on healthy path at a young age. I really wish I had done a better job of that when my kids were little. My youngest has NEVER had issues with weight (except trying to gain weight) but he eats like crap...typical teenage junk food.

Great post!! I was a product of the 80's and everything became processed around that time. It was easy to fall into the trap of TV, etc so BIG KUDOS for breaking the cycle!!
